Manuscript assessments

This service is perfect for authors who are looking for help in assessing the strengths of their manuscript and the areas that still need some work.

Manuscript assessments are an affordable way to access editorial insights and expertise. No edits are completed on your manuscript. Instead, you’ll receive a report that gives you feedback on plot development, characterisation, and writing craft, as well as presentation, marketability, and target audience.

Prices start at £275. Please fill in the ‘author enquiries’ form on my contact page with details about your manuscript.

When Claire suggested a Manuscript Assessment I was uncertain whether this was what I needed or not. I am so glad I agreed! Claire's assessment of my manuscript was truly excellent. She commented on many things - both great and small - but it was her comments on the structure that I found most valuable. One of the constant nagging itches I struggle with is how much detail to provide the reader, so I can be sure that they 'got it'. Claire's assessment of the manuscript will be invaluable to me as I and the manuscript continue on our writing journey.

Talks to your writing group

For writers who are interested in indie publishing and want to optimize their chances of success.

Gather your writing pals and book me for a talk. I will host a Zoom presentation lasting 1.5 hours and, in that time, I will cover three topics that you’ve chosen from a menu of options that includes: levels of editing and finding the right editor, dialogue, tips and tricks for self-editing, elevating prose, and more. There’ll also be time for a Q+A.

Prices start from £140 for a group of up to seven participants. I will accommodate other group sizes and dynamics – prices on application. Send me an email to let me know how I can help your group.

Coaching

Authors whose work I’ve edited can sign up for follow-up coaching. Perhaps you’d like to sign up for a monthly coaching session. Or at six-week intervals. Or even a one-off. This is a bespoke service that we can build to fit your requirements. You can choose the topics you’d like to cover and/or I can pick focuses identified as areas in need of development.

Coaching sessions are £100 a time. Contact me if you’d like to set this up.

Gavin Kemp testimonial for coaching service. He says: Claire and I have been working closely for the last few years and I was delighted to hear that she has started doing writing coaching. We now meet every second week to review the work I have created, and my writing is progressing in leaps and bounds. Claire is a joy to work with.

Pick-my-brains power hour

I’m here to sit with you for an hour to bounce ideas around. For £100, you can get the benefit of what I’ve learnt in 5+ years in the indie world.
